Sorry it took so long to do a piece on Beaufort (which is where we stay while down here). And why do we come here you ask, well great question, and I have pretty good answer. We come down here to walk. My wife is very sick with 2 non-curable diseases, and walking is a great way to keep her doing well. YES we can walk-in Maine, except not in the cold, wind, or humidity and when it’s not cold or windy, it’s raining and snowing (folks we are talking about Maine:). And in the winter time being down south works best, and South Carolina is a bit better than Florida.
Why Beaufort, well mostly because it has the “Spanish Moss Trail”, which as an awesome paved trail that goes through the woods and along the water. The trail is closed to motorized vehicles (except wheelchairs). It’s wide, Clean, Quiet, with several places to take in views of the inland waterways. We have been very lucky and have find places to rent that are very close to the trail, which is just very convenient. Most have also been within a mile or so of downtown, which is Very Cute, with a great assortment of store fronts from Clothing, tourist stores, restaurants, Antique Shops, Bicycle Rentals Shop, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, e few ice cream shops and more, and most of the shops on the waterfront side are restaurants with the backside being outside seating and views of the Water Front Park.
By in-large the folks down here are very open, friendly and pleasant, at a slower pace then what we are use to but if slow is the worst thing to deal with, bring it on.
I do find it strange, weird that this area has around 8, 9,000 people yet there are no less the 6 large grocery stores, tons of gas stations, and just about ever known fast food place is here. On top of this there are dozens of local restaurants and pubs for your eating pleasure. There is also plenty of parks to walk around and enjoy a game of tennis, or pickle ball and most have nice large playgrounds for kids. Most have ponds, and most of the ones with a pond have signs warning about Alligators!
