This is one of the cutest, quaint downtowns we have visited over the years. Beaufort downtown sits on the waterfront, has a great park and water edge walkway, (which is currently closed because of storm damage from the last hurricane that went through the area) which is the backside of the stores on Main Street. Speaking of the stores, it’s a small downtown with no vacate store fronts – a rarity since COVID. You can take a horse drawn carriage ride or a golf cart tour of the downtown area, either is a great way to learn about the past of Beaufort area and the people who helped make it so.
The shops consist of Restaurants, Ice Cream Parlors (Kilwin’s is one of our favorite places), a few bars / pubs, several women’s clothing stores, a nice cooking store, jewelry shops, real estate offices and much more. One of the big draws in the area is the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, which is the park behind the downtown shops.

One of the things that you’ll notice when you first check out the area, is how pleasant most of the shop owners and workers are. This is a treat, because I can say, it is not like this everywhere.
